GEO audit

GEO audit: check what AI search says about your brand, and whether it’s true

Most GEO audits count where your brand shows up in AI answers. Ours also checks whether what the answers say is true.

A GEO (generative engine optimisation) audit looks at how AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Mode describe your brand when buyers ask about your category. It’s the AI-search version of an SEO audit.

What a GEO audit usually covers

  • Visibility. Whether you are mentioned at all when buyers ask about your category, and how often compared with competitors.
  • Citations. Which pages and sites the assistants cite when they talk about you: your own site, review sites, media, Reddit.
  • Sentiment. Whether the answers are broadly positive, neutral or negative.
  • Technical access. Whether AI crawlers can reach and read your pages.

All of that tells you that AI talks about you. It doesn’t tell you whether what it says is right, or where a wrong claim came from.

What a Valtaris GEO audit adds

When we tested the assistants on one brand, Factor, they repeated claims from Reddit threads that didn’t say what the answers said: a complaint contradicted by the most-upvoted thread, a cited post that had been removed, a claim that was only true on one country’s mobile site. You can read the whole test in We fact-checked what AI says about Factor.

So a Valtaris audit checks the claims themselves:

  1. We ask the assistants. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode answer up to 10 questions your buyers ask, with live web search. You can add answers from other assistants by hand.
  2. We list the Reddit threads they cite. These are the discussions the answers lean on.
  3. You send the threads. One click per thread with our Chrome extension. We read up to 8 threads, comment by comment.
  4. We check every claim. Each claim gets a verdict: holds up, only true in some cases, disputed, contradicted, or not in these threads.

What you get

  • Every claim the assistants make about your brand, with the assistant and question it came from.
  • A verdict for each claim, backed by verbatim quotes and links to the comments.
  • How many different people back a claim and how many say otherwise, counted by author, not by upvotes.
  • Flags for old evidence, removed posts and claims that depend on a condition.
  • What to do first: fix the product, answer a misunderstanding, or look at the other sources the assistants use.

Questions

How is this different from AI brand monitoring? Monitoring tools track how often you appear across many prompts over time. An audit is a deep read of what the answers say about you and whether the sources support it. Many brands will want both.

Why Reddit? It’s one of the sources assistants cite for questions about complaints, comparisons and alternatives, and the one where a single thread can carry hundreds of first-hand opinions. A claim that isn’t in the threads is marked as such; that usually means its source is a review site or an article.

How much does it cost? Plus is $49 a month for 4 audits; Pro is $149 for 15. See pricing. To see what ChatGPT says about your brand first, use the free AI visibility checker.
