Export a whole Reddit thread to Markdown or JSON

Valtaris Exporter downloads a Reddit thread with every comment and reply, including the ones hidden behind "load more comments", as clean Markdown or JSON.

Add to Chrome, free

What it exports

  • Every comment and reply. The extension expands "load more comments" for you, so you get the replies a normal copy and paste misses.
  • The thread structure. Each comment keeps its place in the conversation, with its score, date and a link back to it.
  • Markdown or JSON. Markdown to read, paste into notes or give to an AI tool; JSON for your own scripts and spreadsheets.
  • Only what you want. Choose the fields, skip deleted, low-score or AutoModerator comments, sort by best, top, new or controversial. Your settings are remembered.

How to export Reddit comments

  1. Add Valtaris Exporter to Chrome.
  2. Open the Reddit thread you want and click the Valtaris icon. The side panel captures the thread on its own.
  3. Click Download Markdown, Download JSON, or Copy Markdown.

The file is created in your browser and saved to your computer. Nothing is uploaded.

After paying for unlimited exports, click Sign in in the extension's side panel with the same Valtaris account.

Questions

Can I save a Reddit thread as a PDF? Not directly. Export it as Markdown, then open it in any Markdown editor or notes app and print to PDF. You get the whole thread, not just the comments Reddit has loaded on screen.

Does it work on old.reddit.com? Yes, on www.reddit.com and old.reddit.com threads.

How many comments can it get? As many as Reddit will give. It loads the "more comments" batches one by one, slowly enough not to be rate limited; in very large threads some deeply nested "continue this thread" branches can't be expanded, and the panel tells you how many.

Is it a scraper? No. It reads only the thread you open, from your own browser, when you click. It doesn't crawl Reddit or run in the background.

Want to know which Reddit threads ChatGPT cites about your brand, and whether it quotes them right? That's what a Valtaris audit does.
